How to choose your next book (and stop buying books you never finish)

Most of us have a shelf of books we bought with great excitement and never finished. Usually, the book was not bad – it was simply the wrong book at the wrong time. Before your next purchase, ask yourself these five questions.

1. What problem am I trying to solve right now?

The best book is one that answers a question you are already asking. Struggling with money? Read about money. Starting a business? Read founder stories. Reading with a purpose keeps you going.

2. Is this the right level for me?

Classics like Thinking, Fast and Slow are brilliant, but they are hard going for a new reader. Start with a beginner book such as The Art of Thinking Clearly and move up. Every book on Poornadnyan is marked Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced for exactly this reason.

3. Do I prefer stories or instructions?

Some people learn best from real stories (Connect the Dots), others from clear steps (Atomic Habits). Know which one you are.

4. Have I read a short summary first?

Read our review and key ideas before buying. If the big idea excites you, buy the book. If not, you have saved money and shelf space.

5. What will I read after this?

Books work best in sequence. That is why we built reading paths – each book prepares you for the next one.

Still unsure? Our two-minute quiz will pick a book for you.
